Preparing for a Pest Control Treatment

Our exterminators at Advanced Pest Control in Saskatoon want to help you prepare for your extermination treatment. We have created specific preparation sheets for bed bugs, cockroaches, crawling insects, and stored insects. There are several details to consider, including removing all food items from the kitchen, removing items from on top of the bathroom sink, preparing fish tanks, and general cleaning. Click on the buttons below to view each sheet and read the directions according to what needs to be done in your home.

Air conditioners should be turned off 24 hours prior to treatment. If possible, also turn the heat up as far as possible. On the day of treatment, the premises will need to be vacated for 8-10 hours, so arrangements should be made for this.

For best results, all cloths in dresser drawers and linen closets must be put through the dryer on high heat for a minimum of 45 minutes and placed in sealed containers or plastic bags. All cloths hanging in closets can be left as is.

Clear all entryways. We will be bringing in large equipment and will require easy access throughout the house. Pull bookcases, dressers, TV cabinets and other furniture 6 to 12 inches away from the wall. Bed frames can be left in place. Unplug all electronics. Waterbeds must be drained, and air mattress deflated.

Except for the items mentioned above, please leave everything else in its place. This includes furniture, electronics, computers, etc.

Preparation Guidelines For The Control Of Bed Bugs

The following preparations will be necessary PRIOR TO BED BUG TREATMENT.

Kitchen: Remove all food items, dishes, and utensils from countertops and place them in cupboards, fridges, or stoves.

Bathroom: Remove all items from the top of the sink and place them in the vanity or bathtub.

Fish Tanks: Make sure all pumps are shut off and seal all openings of the tank with plastic.

General: All fabric items including clean and dirty clothes, blankets, sheets must be washed in warm water and soap, dried in a dryer, and placed in sealed plastic bags. Items like pillows and stuffed animals that can not be washed must be put in a dryer for a minimum of an hour and then bagged. All furniture must be moved one foot away from the walls. The floor must be clear of all toys and small items. All live plants must be covered with plastic. Do NOT place any items on beds or sofas. Luggage like suitcases or handbags must be empty and unzipped.

Occupants and Pets: Must vacate the premises for a period of 4 to 6 hours from the time treatment commences.

Important: Where pregnancies, allergies, illness, or other unusual circumstances prevail, occupants may be required to remain out of the premises for a longer period.

This procedure must be repeated 10 to 14 days after the first treatment.

Re-entry: Please ensure that all vanity and countertops, cutting boards, fridge, stove tops are thoroughly washed with soap and water prior to placing any items back on them. Do not vacuum or wash floors 6” from the wall for 30 days after the last application if possible

Preparation Guidelines For The Cockroach Extermination

The following preparations must be done BEFORE COCKROACH TREATMENT

KITCHEN: All items must be removed from kitchen cabinets and countertops. Place items on the living room floor and cover them with a sheet. All open boxes of food products like pasta, rice, cereals, etc. must be sealed or stored in sealed containers. All dishes must be washed after each time you use them. Do not leave oils or open food in the cupboards or on the countertops. Wipe countertops 3 to 4 times a day.

WASHROOMS: Remove all items from the top and in the washroom cabinet and store them in the bathtub.

GENERAL: We must have access to all heat pipes entering walls incomplete premises. We must have access of 1 to 2 feet along all baseboards incomplete premises. The fridge and stove must be pulled out and the areas behind the fridge must be cleaned. Inside the stove and the stovetop must also be cleaned daily. Remove all electrical covers in the kitchen, washroom(s), and other infested areas.

RE-ENTRY: Wash countertops and table with warm water and soap. Keep all food products sealed or in sealed containers. Keep countertops and dishes clean before the end of the day. Line the inside of the kitchen cabinets with newspaper. All dishes must be put in an upright position. Do not clean inside kitchen cabinets, vanity, or along baseboards for 30 days.

Preparation Guidelines For The Control Of Crawling Insects

The following preparations will be necessary PRIOR TO PEST CONTROL TREATMENT:

Kitchen: Remove all food items, dishes, and utensils from countertops and place them in cupboards, fridges, or stoves.

Bathroom: Remove all items from on top of vanity and place inside vanity or in the bathtub.

Fish Tanks: Make sure all pumps are shut off and seal all openings of the tank with plastic or a towel.

General: Inform technician where insects have been sighted. Prepare all rooms by moving all furniture 1-2 feet away from the walls. All clothes, toys, and other miscellaneous items on the floor must be picked up and placed on the beds or sofas.

Occupants and Pets: Must vacate the premises for a period of 2 hours from the time treatment commences.

Important: Where pregnancies, allergies, illnesses, or other unusual circumstances prevail, occupants may be required to remain out of the premises for a longer period.

Preparation Guidelines For The Control Of Stored Product Pests

The following preparations will be necessary Prior to PEST CONTROL TREATMENT.

Kitchen: Remove all items including food, dishes, and utensils from kitchen cupboards and drawers, refrigerator top, and stovetop and place on the kitchen table or on the living room floor. Cover all items with plastic, blankets, or sheets.

Bathroom: Remove all items from underneath bathroom sink(s) to allow access to drainpipes.

Fish Tanks: Make sure all pumps are shut off and seal all openings of the tank with plastic or a sheet.

General: Inform the technician if beetles have been sighted in any other rooms. Prepare these rooms by picking up all clothes, toys and other miscellaneous items on the floor and place them on the bed or sofas.

Occupants and Pets: must vacate the premises for a period of 5 hrs from the time treatment commences.

Important: Where pregnancies, allergies, illness, or other unusual circumstances prevail, occupants may be required to remain out of the premises for a longer period.

Cupboard shelves and drawers must not be washed for a period of (30) days. Shelving paper or newspaper should be placed on the shelves in the cupboards and drawers before any items are returned. All dishes should be stored upright on the shelves. After (30) days wash cupboards with soap and water.
